Submitting a thesis or dissertation

We realise how important your thesis or dissertation is to you. We will be happy to help you print and bind it in preparation for submission. You can submit your finished project by clicking on the relevant guide specific to your degree below:

Binding Types

Wherever possible, please email your document to hello@inprintdesign.com along with any requirements. If you are sending a large file which cannot be sent over email, you can use third party sites such as WeTransfer or Dropbox. You can also take documents for copying or binding to the trade counter at Inprint within the Richmond Building.

Our only format for text files is a print ready PDF, saved as one single file set up in page order. It is very easy to create PDFs using Word. When you are ready to create your PDF then simply go to File – Save As and choose PDF from the drop down list.  See submitting a thesis for detailed instructions.

Poster Printing

Student Print offer archive quality full colour wide format poster printing from A2 and up to A0+, as well as custom sizes (up to 1 metre wide).

Paper choice

Our two most popular paper stocks are matt and silk (prices from £15). We also print onto canvas and other specialist materials (please get in touch for price info).

Finishing

To protect your large format prints, we can laminate up to A0 size. This is especially recommended for prints on matt paper, and has the added advantage of making the colours even more vibrant.

Designing your poster

Unless you have access to professional design software, we suggest you use Microsoft Powerpoint to lay out your poster.

If you’re already design-savvy, we can happily accept artwork produced in InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop. Be sure to include any linked images and fonts when you bring in your artwork.

Additional file formats

We also accept TIFF, EPS, JPEG and PDF files. Please check with us first if you intend to use any of these file formats as resolution is very important to the quality of your finished work. Unfortunately, we cannot be held responsible for poor quality prints from supplied low resolution artwork.

Submitting your own artwork

Please download our Self Help Guide if you would like to supply your own files for us to produce for you. It is full of useful tips and links to help you get the best out of setting up your own artwork.

Turnaround time

We usually ask for 2 working days to produce your poster. During busy periods this can be longer, so please phone to check first if you require a fast turnaround time. Additional work such as framing or mounting also takes longer (up to 5 working days).

To minimise waiting time we have an appointment system. To make an appointment please call our Customer Services Team on 01274 088800.

Submitting your poster in person

You can submit your poster on CD or on a USB flash drive. You will need to bring it in person and be prepared to spend 10 to 15 minutes while we check your file and print out a proof for you to sign off.

Support

Our customer service team work closely alongside our technical wizards at I+D.

If there is ever a time you need to communicate an issue, be it a doubt or a query that requires one of our specialists, you can rest assured that you will be dealt with professionally and quickly.

Making sure your artwork is print-ready

When submitting files for print, please try to make sure that:

  • All images and fonts are included with the main file
  • Images are in CMYK colour mode and not RGB
  • Images are high quality (300dpi) versions

If you need any assistance setting up your files we would be happy to help. Please get in touch.

File formats

Our officially supported file formats are listed below. If you don’t see your application here, don’t panic – we can normally find a workaround to print from most applications. Please feel free to contact us if in doubt.

  • Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
  • Adobe PDF
  • Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Most image files, including TIFF, EPS, BMP, JPEG and RAW images

Microsoft Word documents

Microsoft Word documents should be set up using British “A” sizes, and not the “US Letter” American default size. To change your document to use A4, choose “page setup” from the “file” menu and select A4. You might find that some of your text and images reflow after doing this, so do check through your document before you give it to us to print.

Submitting files via email

If your files are less than 20MB in size, we can accept them by email. Please send them to: hello@inprintdesign.com If your files are larger than this, we recommend sending them using the WeTransfer website.
